Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The secrets of serving up spectacular dishes will be revealed by Anton Edelmann, The Savoy's maitre chef des cuisines, at masterclasses on selected dates this month and throughout 1999. After running through his favourite recipes, Edelmann will take participants on a tour of his kitchen before serving them a three-course lunch in the hotel's River Restaurant. Cost of the masterclass, including lunch, is pounds 80. For further information call The Savoy on 0171 420 2356.

One Lawn Terrace (0171 379 0724) reopens on Tuesday following a refurbishment by owners of London's Bank restaurant, BGR, who recently took it over the Blackheath eaterie. The interior will now be modern and minimalist. The menu has also been overhauled with an emphasis on fish dishes, such as blue-fin tuna marinated in citric juices.

Cafe Boheme (01865 245 858) has become the latest place to be seen in Oxford. A sister to the eponymous restaurant in London's Soho, the Oxford High Street brasserie similarly offers a laid-back atmosphere - jazz is played and snackers are as welcome from morning till night as those having a full-blown meal.
