Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

ARTIST CHARLOTTE Hodes spent three months last summer at Spode in Stoke-on-Trent, painting and printing plates (above) with a collage of her own spirited images and others taken from the factory's pattern books and copper-plate transfers. Bold and colourful.

Surfing History is at the Eagle Gallery, 159 Farringdon Road, London WC1 (0171-833 2674) until 28 May

ACCLAIMED DESIGN trio El Ultimo Grito have collaborated with Wireworks to come up with a new collection of startlingly named artefacts: "Killing Me Softly" is an ashtray with an elevated cigarette holder, "Time Flies" an aluminium wall clock, while "Marilyn (I can see your knickers)" is, naturally enough, a chair.

Nobody Flies This Way: El Ultimo Grito is at The Bridge@ Same, 146 Brick Lane, London E1 (0171-247 9992) until 13 June

PETER COKE creates thrillingly intricate shell artefacts: pictures, obelisks, and Faberge-inspired "flower" arrangements in vases. Witty and (extraordinarily) pretty.

At O'Shea Gallery, 120a Mount Street, London W1 (0171-629 1122) until 28 May
