Dance event of the week
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Edward II from Tues
Sadler's Wells
A picture of Sabrina Lenzi as Queen Isabella adorns the leaflet advertising Birmingham Royal Ballet's big, turbulent production which has its London premiere this week. And Isabella has a demanding role. But David Bintley's choreography concentrates more on the men: not only the King torn between public duty and private love, but the man he adores, Gaveston, and Mortimer, who seduces his Queen and leads the barons against him. Based on Christopher Marlowe's Edward II, it offers tremendous roles which they take with enthusiasm and skill. Three different casts take turns during the week and you can expect high drama from any of them. Lots of gore and sex - not for the kiddies or the squeamish.
Birmingham Royal Ballet, Sadler's Wells, Roseberry Avenue, London EC1 (0171-863 8000) Tues to Sat 6 Feb, 7.30pm, matinees Thur 2pm Sat 2.30pm
