From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.‘Chewbacca Mom’ is currently living the high life; having amassed over 141 million Facebook Live plays of her viral video in less than a week, the internet sensation soon appeared alongside JJ Abrams on James Corden’s The Late Late Show.
Not only that, but the stay-at-home mother has been interviewed by Good Morning America, been sent countless Star Wars toys, and led to Chewbacca masks selling out in Toy Stores across the world.
Adding to the growing number of fun things she’s been able to do since the hilarious video amassed millions of shares, Candace Payne visited the Facebook HQ to hang out with Chewbacca. Soon after, Mark Zuckerberg posted the photos onto his account, the post amassing almost one million likes as of writing.
This isn’t the only Chewbacca related surprise Payne has had within the last week: in a message to The Late Late Show, Peter Mayhew revealed he has set aside four VIP tickets for Payne and her family so they can have a private meet and great with him.
How long the perks will come rolling in for ‘Chewbacca Mom’, who can say? But with her fun-loving attitude, we can likely expect her to hang around in the internet’s consciousness for at least another few days. Perhaps a reality TV show outing to follow? Eek.
