Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In four years, Goodgreef has colonised the northern clubs of England with a diet of hard house and epic trance beats. Being a soft southerner, I didn't get the chance to sample its wares until Creamfields '04, when it co-hosted the main arena and proved just how well Goodgreef's collective of DJs (the resident spinners include Eddie Halliwell, above, Alex Kidd, Adam Sheridan and the Trophy Twins) know how to work a crowd, with beats funky enough to keep anyone happy. The event has quickly become the stuff of legend.

Having pretty much dropped off the clubbing radar since New Year's Eve, the promotion is returning to its city stronghold of Manchester with a vengeance tonight. The re-opening event features no less than its illustrious long-time associate Halliwell, plus the ever-impressive Lisa Lashes, Lady Dana, Mark EG, Alex Kidd and Guffy.

Well-rested and ready for action, Goodgreef seems hellbent on reminding everyone that it's ahead of the competition. Don't arrive too late, though: after all, time flies when you're having fun.

Oxford Road, Manchester (07790 774550 / 01925 241320; www.goodgreef.com) tonight, 9am-4am, pounds 17
