Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.MVP BALL @ cafe de paris
Following the recent death of DJ Kem, Goldie makes a rare appearance behind the decks to pay his respects to one half of the dynamic duo, Kemistry & Storm. The pair introduced him to the hardcore sound that would later become jungle and together they founded the Metalhead, long since regarded as a byword for the best in urban beats.
Grooverider, DJ Krust, Bryan Gee, Doc Scott and Bailey will also be featuring on the Technics.
The aim of the MVP Ball (Metalheadz, V Recordings and Prototype Records) is "to honour the scene that made us all" but this Bank Holiday isn't quite your average drum'n'bass gig - more a soiree than a rave.
The sumptuous Cafe de Paris hardly springs to mind as a natural home for a drum'n'bass event, which goes some way to explaining the night's "suitz & sneakerz" dress code. So you better make sure you're scrubbed up. It will be well worth the effort to celebrate DJ Kem's work and see Goldie behind the decks again.

WESTWOOD & FATMAN @ the temple
The name of gigs could be a little more imaginative but you can't fault the power of the tunes on offer at Westwood's jams. If you like hip-hop you'll hear the biggest tunes mixed in with all-time floor fillers. Ladies have free admission; this fact, combined with the excellent tunes, ensures that there are no shortage of guys trying to get into these gigs. Fatman Scoop, LJ and Goldfinger Freddie join Westwood on the decks. It'll be packed, so make sure to arrive early.
Monday, 415 High Road, Tottenham, London N17 (0181-808 0808) 10pm-6am, pounds 6 guys/ladies free
