Clubs; AFTER DARK
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Radio 1's Dave Pearce launches his new monthly gig, Horny at Bakers, in Birmingham this Friday. In addition to plenty of housey anthems, the excellent Mouse T and Baby Bumps will be performing live PAs amid a supporting cast of red-devil dancers, stilt- walkers and angels! In moving Paul "Trouble" Anderson's show from its Saturday- night slot, Kiss FM has made it a little bit harder to find a decent tune on Saturday-night radio. But be sure to catch his regular Wednesday night gigs at The Loft at HQ's. The Loft is one of countless clubs celebrating birthdays this month, but it's eight years old - enough said! All the greats have performed here over the years. Jocelyn Brown gets my vote for greatest performance in the history of the clubbing world. OK, I'll admit I'm a fan. Watch out for her soon-to-be-released Greatest Hits album on the 27 Sept. Garage legend Byron Stingily makes a Loft appearance on 19 Sept. Heading north, a recent Saturday-night trip to The Canal Club in Wolverhampton reaffirmed my faith in Midlands clubbing. Stylish kids, innovative aesthetic and bangin' tunes prove that you can have a great Midlands weekender outside of the Birmingham orbital. Nottingham's Clinic at The Bomb offers some of the freshest jazz fusion around and definitely deserves checking. You'll hear a little bit of rare and funk classics all sewn up with excellent mixing and an easy crowd. The exciting Cucamara Allstars feature every Wednesday, so get on down.
