Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Unless you've just been on the Mir space station, you'll be aware that Notting Hill Carnival weekend is upon us. Three days of sun, soca and socialising (where else is dancing in public with police officers cool?) but what do you do when the sun has gone down and the music has stopped?
Sunday night at Subterania is the Good Times Official After Carnival Party. Norman Jay and friends continue festivities after dark, marking the man's 15th time at Notting Hill. Naturally, the music policy will capture the weekend vibe, so don't forget your whistle.
Monday sees the aptly named Carry On Carnival at the same venue. Sancho Panza Sound System provide choice house and club classics with Matt and Nate Brown on the decks.
Roger Michael's Nada gets into the spirit of things at the Cafe de Paris with his excellent Nada on Monday night. These gigs are always worth queueing for, but you'll have to go home first and slip into something less comfortable before you can pass the hawk-eyed bouncers.
The best gig of the weekend promises to whisk you away from the land of concrete and smog altogether so you can party in more serene surroundings. The Great Escape is a collaboration between Club Yo Yo and Birmingham- based outfit Just Good Friends. The result is a mysterious trip from London to a luxurious country mansion set in acres of countryside near Bristol.
There are three rooms playing enough flavas to cover most musical tastes. The poolside room (bring your bikini) is hosted by Yo Yo's Ronnie Herel, JP and Mad Flava while the lush Burgundy Room features soulful/uplifting garage with DJs John Coomer, Bob Povey and Andy Ward. Funky rhythms and rare grooves are played in the balcony courtesy of Chilli Source and Nigel G.
Headz will be coming from Birmingham, Bournemouth and Bristol to join the London contingent; this gig looks set to provide plenty of stories for long winter evenings. With a little luck and a lot of energy, you can return for bank holiday Monday without a wink of sleep.
