William Hayes spent most of his working life in Oxford. Doomed to obscurity by metrocentricity, he is revealed as a significant talent in this rendition of The Passions (1750) with Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Loosely based on the St Cecilia Odes of Purcell, Croft and Handel, it's an Arcadian allegory where Music vanquishes Fear, Anger, Hope, Despair, Jealousy, Revenge and Melancholy. Varied instrumentation, jubilant choruses, seductive arias and dazzling recitatives should bring him belated fame.
