This small but brilliant museum mainly caters for school parties but on the first Sunday afternoon of the month, you can check out its authentic Victorian classroom complete with wooden desks and slates. The museum (above) won't be running its ever-popular classroom role-play (the look on the children's faces when they are confronted with a Victorian teacher is a sight) but there will be performances of an east-European shadow puppet show at 2pm and 3.15pm.
Kids' Drop In
Courtauld Gallery, Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2 (0171-873 2526) today, 11am-1pm, adults free with child
On the first Saturday morning of each month, this recently reopened gallery, which has one of the world's finest collections of Impressionist pictures, holds drop-in sessions for six to12-year-olds, at which they can try everything from printing to dressing up in replica costumes. There is also a gallery trail for children.

Why visit one museum, when you can visit 20 Heritage sites and museums in Bath will be gathering today, with everything from hands-on displays to art and craft workshops and costumed performers.
Grand Safari Hunt Family Fun Day
Hove Museum and Art Gallery, 19 New Church Rd, Hove, Brighton (01273 290200) today, 11am-3pm, free (small charge for some activities)
To coincide with its current show, "Zoo", the gallery is inviting families to take part in a "safari", which includes face painting, stories and creative activities on an animal theme.
Teddy Bear Fair

Bear necessities and not-such-necessities will be on offer with more than 40 stalls, including a teddy bear clinic for poorly bears and valuations for old bears.
Friends of Thomas the Tank Engine

Thomas, the Fat Controller and the rest of the crew will be getting all steamed up as usual. Trains go to Swanwick, where there is a locomotive museum and a country park and farm. NS
