Charity Competition
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THE NEW Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Sunset Boulevard, opens at the Adelphi on 29 June. There is a charity preview, in the presence of HRH the Duchess of Kent, on Tues 22 June. Proceeds will be shared between the Samaritans and Riding for the Disabled.
Sunset Boulevard is based on Billy Wilder's classic film of 1950. Gloria Swanson's role of the star attempting a comeback will be played by Patti LuPone, who won a Tony award for Evita. The two charities have given us a pair of tickets to the preview and the party afterwards at the Waldorf Hotel in London. As the prize has a retail value of pounds 250, we are holding one of our occasional charity competitions. Entrants are asked to send a cheque for pounds 1 - or more if you wish - made out to 'Sunset Boulevard Charity Preview (RDA)'.
To enter, please send your cheque and the answers to these questions to Sunset, Arts Desk, Independent on Sunday, 40 City Rd, London EC1Y 2DB, by Tues 1 June.
1 Who was Gloria Swanson's male co-star in the film of 'Sunset Boulevard'?
2 Who has written the book for the musical?
3 When did Lloyd Webber last put on a new musical in London?
If you don't win, tickets can still be bought from Ticketmaster (071-413 1428) for pounds 35, pounds 50, pounds 60, pounds 75 or pounds 80. Credit-card bookings only.
Usual rules apply and the editor's decision is final.
