CALSSICAL: NEW RELEASES
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Richard Strauss's witty incidental music to Moliere's comedy is more familiar as a suite than, as here, in its entirety. But what will either attract or dissuade Strauss fans is how they take to Sir Peter Ustinov's new text and narration. - While he never strays too far from the spirit of the piece, and his contribution is often amusing, there can be only a limited number of times it can be enjoyed without it getting in the way of the music. Alessandro Scarlatti: Stabat Mater Il Seminario Musicale, Lesne (Virgin Veritas)
Alessandro, father of Domenico, is the lesser-known of the two Scarlattis, but his vocal music shows him to be a master of the form. While his setting of the Stabat Mater cannot rival Pergolesi's, it is a captivating work in its own right. Gerard Lesne leads his specialist team in a superb performance that relies on both his own alto voice and his soprano Sandrine Piau. HHHH
