Your support makes all the difference.Dan Brown's record-breaking mystery thriller The Lost Symbol has topped the book charts for Christmas.
The long-anticipated follow-up to The Da Vinci Code was the best-selling book for the week ending December 19, and will therefore be in the top spot on Christmas Day, retailer Waterstone's said.
The thriller, again featuring Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, hit the book shelves in September with a UK first print run of a million copies.
The "unstoppable juggernaut" faced competition from Guinness World Records 2010, which held the number one spot the week before, and Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse, the third book in her Twilight saga.
But last week it pulled clear of its rivals, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Brown last had the Christmas number one in 2004, with the paperback of The Da Vinci Code at the height of its popularity.
The film adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, starring Tom Hanks, was a worldwide number one hit, as was Angels And Demons, the adaptation of the first of Brown's thrillers featuring Langdon.
Waterstone's fiction buyer Janine Cook said: "The Lost Symbol broke every record when it was published - biggest and fastest-selling adult hardback fiction title, biggest-selling eBook, biggest print run from publisher Transworld.
"It's not been far from the top of the charts since publication, and it's a great gift, which is why it's back on top. It has been an unstoppable juggernaut of a book."
Alison Barrow, of Transworld Publishers, added: "Dan Brown's continuing and broad popularity here in the UK and throughout the world is truly phenomenal.
"It has been a most uplifting experience for everyone involved in the publication of The Lost Symbol and we feel very privileged to have been a part of its success.
"To be Christmas number one is very exciting indeed."
