Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. We marked the 40th anniversary of the Mr Men, Roger Hargreaves's global publishing phenomenon, by tracking down people who share names with the famous characters. We also invited you to try to win a prize by suggesting ideas for a new addition to the cartoon line-up. After Mr Tickle's debut in 1971, each of the 47 Mr Men and 34 Little Miss books introduced a different creation with a personality that conveyed a simple moral message. We asked you to do the same.
Creative readers responded by putting pen, paint and crayon to paper to produce some colourful ideas for new characters. Our winning entry came from seven-year-old Sophie Peschiera, from London, who painted the lightbulb-shaped Mr Idea. As his name suggests, he "has lots of ideas".
Sophie wins the complete Mr Men box set of 47 titles, worth £117. Ten runners-up will each receive a copy of the Mr Tickle book signed by Adam Hargreaves. Here are the top five entrants.
