Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In second and third are enduring favorites Dear John by Nicholas Sparks and The Help by Kathryn Stockett.
Dennis Lehane's psychological thriller Shutter Island, first published in 2003, climbed into the top ten list last week in anticipation of the release of the novel's film adaptation, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. With the film now in theaters worldwide, the book has continued to climb the charts, moving from seventh to first place.
The romance Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks, is in the number-two spot following the release of a feature film based on the novel. Sparks's novel The Last Song is in fifth place; that title has been adapted into a film starring Miley Cyrus and due for release in late March.
Kathryn Stockett's The Help has been a best-seller in print and electronic versions since it was published a year ago. Stockett's debut novel, the book tells the story of a young woman in the American South during the civil rights movement.
