From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Unorthodox release strategies are all the rage lately, but J.K Rowling has a truly unique one waiting in the wings, revealing this week that she wrote a fairy tale onto a dress that is now hanging in her closet.

Asked by CNN about a political book for children she was rumoured to be writing, Rowling clarified: "Oh, that was a fairy tale.

"But I will tell you this," she continued. "On my 50th - the theme of my 50th birthday, which I held at Halloween, even though that's not really my birthday - was 'come as your own private nightmare'.

"And I went as a lost manuscript. I wrote over a dress most of that book. So that book, I don't know whether it will ever be published, but it's actually hanging in a wardrobe currently."

The fairy tale is presumably not a long one if it can fit on a dress but it would no doubt be very sought after, as literally any words Rowling commits to paper are.

The author has continued this year to broaden the Harry Potter universe through writings on Pottermore, a recent one detailing the Harry Potter that came before the Harry Potter we know.
