From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Stieg Larsson's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is back in first place among Amazon's best-selling Kindle e-books for the week ending April 24. Harlan Coben's standalone thriller Caught and Larsson's The Girl Who Played With Fire, another title from the Swedish author's internationally bestselling Millennium trilogy, are in second and third place, according to a list released April 27 by Publishers Marketplace.

New to the bestseller list is Every Last One by American author and journalist Anna Quindlen, whose others novels include One True Thing (Meryl Streep earned an Academy Award for her role in the 1998 film adaptation). Published on April 13, Every Last One tells the story of a devoted mother and the effects of depression and violence on her and her family.

Spending a second week in the top ten is The Shadow of Your Smile by prolific suspense novelist Mary Higgins Clark. The book's publisher calls the title "a spellbinding thriller revolving around a long-held family secret that threatens to emerge and take the life of an unsuspecting heiress."
