Cultural Life: Kathy Reichs, novelist
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

I'm going to read 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Long title, short book. But right now I'm reading Harry Potter-type books because I am writing a young adult series myself.
Television
I recently went to Hawaii with my family and at the house there were seasons 1, 2 and 3 of '30 Rock'. Some evenings we would watch seven or eight episodes back to back. It's very funny.
Films
I tend to watch a lot of movies at home. It's nice to be close to the refrigerator, with my pyjamas on and just relax. Although I would like to see '(500) Days of Summer'.
Visual arts
We have what's called the NoDa Gallery Crawl in Charlotte, US, where I live. On the first Friday of each month a lot of the galleries serve wine and you just go from one gallery to the next. That's fun. I will usually go with a group of friends.
Music
I'm not so into music, but we do have season tickets to the Charlotte Symphony and the opera. I tend to listen to music more on the car radio.
Kathy Reichs' novel '206 Bones' is out now.
