Weekly arts agenda: Tutankhamun’s Funeral, Art Dubai, Art Paris+Guests

During the week of March 15 visitors to the Metropolitan Museum in New York will step back in time as they discover objects and artifacts excavated from the final resting place of Tutankhamun. In Dubai art collectors and contemporary art lovers will be viewing exciting examples of contemporary Middle Eastern and international art at Art Dubai.

More than 60 artifacts have been prepared for an exhibition that traces the life, death and mummification of Tutankhamun. Objects such as jars, linen sheets, bandages and floral collars found in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt - Tutankhamun's final resting place - will help explain the rituals associated with the burial of the pharaoh. Sculptures of the youthful Tutankhamun and paintings depicting funerary rituals of the time will be paired with archival photographs from the Tutankhamun's tomb excavation to provide an evocative background.

The 32nd international Artexpo will welcome more than 400 artists, galleries and publishers from around the world. The world's largest fine art trade show hopes to attract in excess of 25,000 buyers and art enthusiasts in 2010 all coming to view and purchase wholesale works directly from artists and publishers. In addition to the large showcase of prints, paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography and ceramics, Artexpo will host a special Education Series. The educational seminars and conference classes will be held across the three days on subjects such as art and the economy, art marketing and social media for artists.

Picasso: Themes and Variations

One hundred works by Picasso will examine the themes and variations that reappear throughout his career. The exhibition traces the links between his early depictions of itinerant circus performers during his Blue and Rose periods, through to his inventive use of shape and form during his Cubism phase. The exhibition explores his experimentation with the mediums of etching, lithography, painting and printmaking as well as showing how the artist developed his style whilst investigating new themes.

Art Fair Tokyo is a broad-ranging art fair that encompasses contemporary and modern art as well as the more traditional Japanese art forms such as nihonga (Japanese-style paintings) and ukiyoe (Japanese woodblock art). More than 135 galleries will showcase works made by local and international artist.
