Your support makes all the difference.With his designer stubble, straggly mass of curls, uniform of tight black jeans and partially unbuttoned shirt Todd DiCiurcio looks like a long lost member of New York band The Strokes.
But the American is not a musician, although his wardrobe may owe something to his associates in the business. He is actually an artist who has been making a name for himself with portraits of some of New York's hottest bands including Kings of Leon and EXITMUSIC.
A large selection of DiCiurcio’s new paintings, made in true rock ‘n’ roll style in black enamel on gold canvas and finished off with coating of diamond dust, go on show in London tomorrow.
The exhibition, entitled Gold, at The Cob Gallery is the artist’s debut solo show in this country and brings a vision of the New York 'scene' to the very different, but similarly musically vibrant, quarters of London's Camden.
The artist sketches during live performances, producing a semblance of the movement and vigour of the band’s stage persona, before transferring his drawings to gilded canvas in the studio.
Other bands immortalised by DiCiurcio for the London show include Broken Social Scene, Adam Green, Guided by Voices, Edward Sharpe, Magnetic Zeros, Bob Mould, The English Beat and Guster.
Limited edition t-shirts will be sold to fans at the gallery.
