Director John Tiffany (Black Watch) creates a taut hymn to isolation and otherness, while the core outsider love story is drawn with confidence by Martin Quinn as the bullied Oskar and Rebecca Benson as Eli, a reclusive teenage girl who proves to be a vampire. Jack Thorne’s faithful script, Christine Jones’s wonderfully sparse staging and some wildly inventive set-pieces add up to a tightly controlled and satisfying experience.
