Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Since 2009, the Young Photographers' Alliance has been nurturing promising photographic talent, initially in New York before the charity expanded into Britain. Industry professionals have been mentoring photographers, aged between 18 and 29, giving them advice not only on technical their skills but also on the business acumen needed to build a career in the profession.
Every year, the charity showcases the best photographs to come out of the programme, with teams hosted in Bristol, Glasgow and London. This year the participants were asked to explore the theme of "home", and the winning photographs will be exhibited at the Margaret Street Gallery, central London, from this Tuesday until 17 January.
Mentors involved in the project: Sophie Batterbury, picture editor of The Independent on Sunday, Visit Britain's photography manager Jasmine Teer, leading photographer Justin Sutcliffe, Sophie Chapman-Andrews (Head Art Buyer at McCann London), photographers Daniel Bosworth and Claire Stewart, and freelance picture editors Elaine Livingstone, Liz Helman, and Debbie Ireland.
