Your support makes all the difference.In April, New York's Museum of Modern Art will stage the first major Henri Cartier-Bresson retrospective in 30 years in the USA, a show that will later travel to Chicago and San Francisco. Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century, covers 60 years of the French photographer's career, internationally acclaimed as one of the fathers of photojournalism and dubbed "the eye of the century."
Organized in twelve sections, the exhibition presents 300 prints from 1929 to 1989, many of which have never been shown to the public before.
The Modern Century showcases Cartier-Bresson’s vision of last century with snapshots in war-torn Spain and France in the 1930s and 1940s, at the heart of the Paris liberation from the Nazis. He also immortalized Gandhi just hours before his assassination, and witnessed the victory of the communists in China.
Cartier Bresson, who died in 2004, also took part in photojournalism history by co-founding in 1947 one of the most prestigious photo agencies, Magnum, with Robert Capa, George Rodger and David Seymour.
After New York, the retrospective will travel to Chicago from July 24 to October 3, then will head to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
