Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A free literary festival for children run by the London Evening Standard and Nook, will take place in London's Trafalgar Square on 13 July.

Get Reading festival will feature Rupert Everett who has recently played Oscar Wilde in The Judas Kiss reading an Oscar Wilde fairy tale. Even Joey, the puppet horse from the West End show War Horse will attend a reading of Michael Morpurgo's novel turned hit film and play. A Billy Elliot the Musical cast member will perform the song “Electricity”.

The idea of teaming up with West End shows is to make the day as fun as possible for kids and to encourage their interest in reading.

There will also be famous authors and celebrity storytellers helping children take part in a giant read-a-thon.

This is part of the London Evening Standard's ongoing commitment to support child literacy. In 2011, the paper launched Get London Reading to help struggling readers catch up with their peers and train reading helpers in schools.
