Your support makes all the difference.Watch out Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin: British art has some new rising stars if the shortlist for this year's Catlin Art Prize is any guide. The award's curator, Justin Hammond, has selected 10 new talents who, he says, show "real potential to make a significant mark in the next decade". Their work is to be showcased from 3 to 25 May at a new exhibition at the Londonewcastle Project Space in Shoreditch, east London. The winner of the £5,000 prize will be announced on 16 May.
Mr Hammond arrived at the shortlist from around 2,000 art graduates whose work he's examined during the past year. Painter Ali Kazim, says his work explores "the complex physicalities of the human body". Here, we show some of the other shortlisted artists: Gabriella Boyd; Soheila Sokhanvari; Julia Vogl; Greta Alfaro; and Jonny Briggs. Tom Howse said: "I tend to start paintings without a clear idea as to what the finished image will be."
The others on the shortlist are: sculptor Adeline de Monseignat, and performance/installation artists Max Dovey and Poppy Bisdee.
