A Soft Murmur: This website of ambient sounds will wash away distractions
Mmmmmmmm, crackling fire.
Your support helps us to tell the story
In my reporting on women's reproductive rights, I've witnessed the critical role that independent journalism plays in protecting freedoms and informing the public.
Your support allows us to keep these vital issues in the spotlight. Without your help, we wouldn't be able to fight for truth and justice.
Every contribution ensures that we can continue to report on the stories that impact lives

A Soft Murmur is a website to bookmark immediately.
It hosts a range of calming sound clips - from wind and fire to coffee shop and white noise - and lets you play them at different volumes and on top of one another.
My personal favourite combo:
75% Fire, 25% Waves and a touch of Crickets.
It can also be used to create terrifying, Guantanamo-esque soundscapes should you so desire, especially if you combine White Noise, Thunder and Wind.
“I created A Soft Murmur for myself,” said designer Gabriel Martin. “I like to work in public spaces like libraries and coffee shops, but they can be noisy and distracting.
“Listening to ambient helps me focus, and I like being able to mix different sounds together to match the environment I'm in.
“Other people seem to like it too, so I've kept working on it.”
A Soft Murmur is also available on Android (and iPhone soon), should you be after some zen on the move.
