Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Draw inspiration

Tate Liverpool's new exhibition takes the story of 20th-century art back to basics. From early anatomical studies of the human body to surrealist pieces by Leonora Carrington, and featuring drawings and sketches by the likes of Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud, Tracing the Century strips away the layers of paint to reveal the bare bones of a transformed tradition. Until 20 January, tate.org.uk

Shop for life

Husband and wife team Fee and Adam Storey are on a mission. She is a former H&M and M&S textile designer, he's a former Harvey Nichols retail man. And their first 'lifestyle concept' store, Life Story, has just opened in Edinburgh, selling a brilliantly edited selection of designer fashion and interior items. 53 London Street, lifestoryshop.com

Natural treasure

If nature, like rock and roll, had a hall of fame, this would be it. The Natural History Museum's 'Treasures' gallery will display 22 of the finest items from their archive, including JJ Audubon's seminal book, Birds of America. From Friday, nhm.ac.uk

Downhill all the way

Believe it or not, people ski in Scotland! An All Area Season Pass grants you the freedom of the Highlands' ski centres from December to October 2013 (although it's unlikely the snow will last for quite that long). £470, ski.visitscotland.com

Spy wear

It may not be a fashion item typically associated with 007, but this tartan-lined, wax jacket – worn by Daniel Craig in the final scenes of Skyfall – sold out within days of the film's release. More have been dispatched to Barbour's London stores, but you'll have to hurry – the thought of looking like Bond on a country retreat appears to make men desperate to part with their cash. £399, barbour.com

The hard stuff

Sign up now for the first edition of Gin & It, the new quarterly for whisky nerds, gin-slingers, ale buffs and winos. A boozy sister publication to the food quarterly Fire & Knives, readers can expect words on the history, culture, science and philosophy of alcohol. Available early December, in time for Christmas gift deliveries. £34 per year, ginandit.co.uk
