Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Photography has always been central to The Independent on Sunday, nowhere more so than in The New Review. That's why we are delighted to have teamed up with the Royal Academy of Arts and the photographic-printing company Metro Imaging for an exciting new competition designed to encourage budding talents.

Inspired by the Royal Academy's acclaimed current exhibition, Eyewitness: Hungarian Photography in the 20th Century (until 2 October), the Eyewitness Photography Competition invites entrants to upload and share their images in four categories: Street, Portrait, Fashion and Abstract – with some of the entries already submitted displayed on these pages.

The judges, who include Colin Ford CBE, the distinguished curator of the Royal Academy's Eyewitness show, will pick a winning image to be published in The New Review, and the winner and runners-up will also receive a range of prizes.

The closing date for entries is 26 August; for details, visit www.royalacademy.org.uk/eyewitnesscomp.
