BATH Victoria Art Gallery William Strang. A touring exhibition from Glasgow Art Gallery showing the work of the celebrated Scottish-born painter and etcher. Described by Sickert as 'a modern painter setting to work on imaginative subjects in the grand, self-respecting classic manner', Strang created some of the most enduring images of the early 20th century. This show demonstrates his entire range, from realist visons of the urban poor to society portraiture and disquieting symbolist allegories. And Bath Society of Artists. EDINBURGH Scottish National Portrait Gallery Visions of the Ottoman Empire. Nineteenth-century Western artists were fascinated with the mystery of life beyond the harem wall and in the bazaars of the Middle East. LEEDS Harewood House Craigie Aitchison. Retrospective exhibition for the septuagenarian painter taught at the Slade by Lowry and John Piper. With inimitable palette and instinctive form he imbues everything he paints - landscapes, portraits and religious themes - with a sense of the mystical. LLANDUDNO Oriel Mostyn Antony Gormley. Field. The gigantic installation made from 35,000 clay figures goes on its tour of the UK. South London Gallery Rose Garrard. An installation entitled 'Arena for Conversation'.
