Your support makes all the difference.It's difficult separating work from my social life, because I have to check out heaps of places for my show. As far as clubs go, Monday night at Bar Rumba, 36 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, W1 (071-287 2715) is unmissable. It's called 'That's How It Is', and essentially they play jazz. It's quite a small place, but intimate and very friendly.
I used to love The Institute of Dubology at The Vox, sadly it's closed now but they used to play roots reggae and dub. I know it has become very trendy now, but the Dub Club at The Dome, 178 Junction Rd, N19 (071-281 2195) on Thursdays is good. Jah Shaka at The Rocket, Holloway Rd, N7 (071-700 2421) is unmissable. It usually happens on the last Friday in the month. Shaka is a bit of a legend. The sort of music he plays is timeless, it doesn't matter what mood you are in, you can't help but be carried off by it. It's an excellent vibe with a huge cross-section of people - not really your typical club crowd.
I like Megatripolis at Heaven, Villiers St, WC2 (071-839 5210). It's like the Glastonbury Festival in a club. Fresh 'n' Funky at Club Iceni, 11 Whitehorse St, W1 (071-495 5333) is really into jungle at the moment. My two favourite restaurants are Cotton's Rum Shop and Bar, 55 Chalk Farm Rd, NW1 (071-482 1096). It's West Indian, and has a very homely vibe. Since I hardly ever get the chance to cook for myself, this place is like a home from home.
Casale Franco, 134 Upper St, N1 (071-226 8994) in Islington has to be the best Italian restaurant in London. The decor and the staff are first class and the food is just amazing.
