From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

From the album covers to the music videos to the sound to the clothing, it all feels cohesive - definitely laced with 80s and 90s nostalgia and yet still coming across as a completely new proposition.
While his work feels rooted in New York City, his new album Freetown Sound adds new ethnographic layers.
“My dad is from Freetown, Sierra Leone. He moved to London in the beginning of the ‘60s when he was in his early twenties,” he told Okay Africa.
“The album is kind of like multiple lenses. It’s me being born in London and moving to America the same age that my parents moved from where they were born,”
These reference points are clear in the video for lead single ‘Augustine’, with its painted Sierra Leonean flag backgrounds and British chippie meets American diner locations.
Oh, and it’s filled with enviable outfits and looks:
Black leather jacket and cap, no shirt, chunky gold buckle belt and George Michael moves
Orange bucket hat, navy hoodie, clashing blue basketball shorts, gold watch
Ripping a solo on a vintage Steinberger with your shirt off
Guyana cap, white 'Terrible' cropped tee (how is he pulling that off), faded blue jeans
Off-white, possibly tucked in, peace corps tee
Old school England polo shirt, buttoned up
Dungarees. Just dungarees.
Tinted glasses, general 'skate park sage' vibes
Filling your empty NYC apartment with dry ice and shredding the piano
