Designing AlUla's five districts

The region of AlUla in north west Saudi Arabia is going through an enormous transformation as part of the 15-year Journey Through Time Masterplan.

The developments will not only protect and preserve its millennia-old heritage and culture, but also bring them into the present and ensure that they survive well into the future.

In this video, some of the designers involved in the project explain the thinking and inspiration behind their designs, from the natural environment that helped to shape the landscape to the people who built flourishing civilisations here.

They explore how to sensitively bring all those elements together, uplifting each one without overshadowing the others.

It’s an insight into what AlUla will look like once the transformation is complete, as well as the five distinct districts that will form the core of the experiences open to visitors.
