Moment when pyrotechnics spark deadly fire in nightclub in North Macedonia
A fire at the Pulse nightclub in Kočani, North Macedonia, killed at least 59 people and injured more than 100, some of whom were under 18.
The fire, which occurred during a concert, was likely caused by pyrotechnics igniting the flammable ceiling.
About 20 people, including government officials and the club’s manager, were arrested; the club lacked a valid license, which was illegally issued by the economy ministry.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski declared seven days of national mourning and promised to hold those responsible accountable.
The incident prompted a large emergency response, with many victims hospitalised with severe burns.
