Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Reddit has stopped working for at least some users, who are being greeted by error messages and blank pages.
The site said it was aware of the incident and that it is being investigated. It didn't give any indication of the cause of the problems or how long they might take to be fixed.
Where posts on the site would usually appear, users were instead greeted with a message saying "Sorry, for some reason reddit can't be reached".
Another pop-up appeared at the bottom of the screen that simply read: "Sorry, we couldn't load posts for this page".
Though those error messages included a "reload" button, pressing it or refreshing the page in other ways did not seem to have any effect.
The website Down Detector logged hundreds of complaints from users unable to reach the site.
Reports of problems were particularly focused in the UK and the east coast of the US, though that might simply be an indication of where most people are trying to access it from.
Not every user appeared to be hit by the problems, with some apparently able to browse without problems. Others found the site appeared to work – but then broke while it was being used.
