Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sony has confirmed their interest in the connected, touch-screen device market with the unveiling of a low-priced "Personal Internet Viewer" called Dash.

The Dash is an internet connected device that bridges the gap between your high-definition TV and your connected laptop. It sits in the market in between an internet-connected TV, a laptop and a digital picture frame providing wireless real-time internet and services via the more than 1,500 applications already available from Sony's Bravia Internet Video platform.

A dedicated Netflix application provides access to thousands of movies and TV series - all available On Demand. Sony has confirmed it will be offering videos from eHow, Golflink and LIVESTRONG.COM in the near future in addition to the existing live streaming video and audio content.

"We're continuing to develop innovative products that bring online music, news, video and more into our customers' homes in real time," said Brennan Mullin, senior vice president of Sony Electronics' personal imaging and audio business. "By adding content from Netflix and Demand Media to our dash product, Sony is giving consumers a new, convenient way to enjoy some of the highest quality entertainment and most useful information available on the Internet today."

The 7-inch touch screen device also provides real-time updates from social networking services Facebook and Twitter as well as constantly updated traffic, weather and news information.

Sony's Dash will be priced at $199.99 and will be available from April.
