Alan Wells, the England A captain, yesterday admitted his side had suffered their "most frustrating day" of their winter tour on the opening day against Bangladesh XI in Dhaka.
Bangladesh elected to bat in the three-day match, but bored their own crowd with go-slow tactics to close on 168 for 2 off 60 overs, while umpiring decisions went against England, whose composure suffered.
Wells said: "Nothing much went right for us. The wicket was helpful early on, but once it dried out it gave our attack very little assistance." He responded diplomatically when asked about the quality of Bangladeshi umpiring. "We felt the umpires could have given us one or two decisions." Appeals were refused after Khaled Masud appeared to be caught by Jason Gallian off Richard Stemp at short leg and Aminul Islam seemed to edge Gallian to the wicketkeeper Keith Piper.
