Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In barefoot water skiing, without the support of skis, competitors have to perform at high speed to stay afloat, creating an exciting spectacle. This weekend, there is a double helping of top water skiing when the senior European Grand Prix and the junior European Championships conclude at Lakeside, Thurrock. Britain won the junior championships last year and among the medal prospects is Lucy Scopes, aged 12, a local skier from Romford, who begins the defence of her jumping title today. In the senior Grand Prix, Kim Harding, from Upminster, attempts to break her European record when the women's jumping starts tomorrow. The finals of both events are on Sunday and spectating is free all weekend.

How to get there: Lakeside, Thurrock, Essex, is signposted from junctions 30 and 31 of M25 or by direct access on A13, A1306 and West Thurrock Way. Parking is free. Competition starts at 9am daily, continuing to 5pm.
