Five professional players appeared in a Hong Kong court yesterday charged with conspiring to lose a World Cup qualifying match against Thailand. The five pleaded not guilty to 17 charges brought by the Independent Commission Against Corruption. They were accused of conspiring with the jailed player, Chan Tsz-kong, in fixing a series of local First Division matches as well as the Thai cup qualifier in March 1996. The case was adjourned until 1 December.
