Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Cape Cross: Best when fresh and returned from a three-month break to beat the Sussex Stakes runner-up, Docksider, in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. Off the course since.

Almushtarak: A Group One regular - a good third here to Aljabr in the Sussex Stakes and then fourth to Royal Anthem in the Juddmonte International at York. Tends just to miss out and second to Muhtathir here last year.

Debbie's Warning: Successful in Kempton maiden in May but well beaten since. Plenty to find.

Josr Algarhoud: Won Gimcrack Stakes as a two-year-old and returned to beat Haami in a Group Three at Newcastle. Now facing a rise in class and distance but open to further improvement.

Wallace: Career-best effort in holding Haami by a short-head at Ascot last time. Course-and-distance winner but stiffest task yet.

Conclusion: It may pay to stick with proven class rather than potential so CAPE CROSS gets the vote. Josr Algarhoud is potentially very good but must prove himself at this level.
