Gregor Townsend knows his Scottish side will have to pull out all the stops to defeat and Ireland outift who have won 15 of their past 16 Tests at home and are beginning a new era under head coach Andy Farrell.
Wales have set the early running with fast start against Italy in Cardiff at lunchtime and both of these sides will want to join them in beginning with a win. Follow it live after the conclusion of Wales vs Italy:

Italy bring on Dean Budd in the second row and Guglielmo Palazzani for Callum Braley at scrum-half.

Off Wales go in search of the fourth try then, but that bonus point is proving elusive, with Italy able to get men over the ball at the ruck and pilfer the pill on the floor.
Carlo Canna's clearance is a hopeless hack, however, and shanked out of play just 20 metres from their own line. Wales will try their luck again.

The Welsh maul is initially stopped but begins to get going as they change the point of drive, and Giovanni Licata cannot stop himself from diving in at the side to halt the maul's momentum. Luke Pearce spots him. Wales push the penalty into the corner via the boot of replacement fly-half Jarrod Evans.

Better maul defence from Italy, with Rhys Webb just about able to drag the ball out of a mire and ship it away to Nick Tompkins who makes a metre. Ross Moriarty makes two, and the forwards come around the corner to push on to within a couple of yards of the left upright.
Webb controls at the base and invites the bigger boys to give it another go, with Leon Brown driving Ryan Elias to within a gnat's hair of the white line. Webb whips it away...
TRY! And George North does have the bonus point score!
Captain Alun Wyn Jones helps haul the centre over after North got his upper body through the tackle, and as the pair come to floor the ball is on the line. Four tries, and a bonus point victory for Wales is sealed.
Leigh Halfpenny adds the conversion.

Justin Tipuric is named the man of the match, but BBC pundit Jonathan Davies (Jiffy, rather than Fox, though both are on punditry duties this afternoon, confusingly) makes the point that Wales' performance has been more about the collective than anyone contribution. Tipuric has made more tackles than anyone else this afternoon - 21, in all, to go with a number of touches in the open field.

Crikey! Marco Lazzaroni briefly threatens to go the length of the pitch with great long strides, the tall forward showing remarkable speed down the left, but his offload is batted back by Wales, and George North replies in kind with his own searing burst.

TRY! Josh Adams has his hat-trick!
Wales have a fifth! Rhys Webb picks his runner, and Adams on the hard line back against the grain with a slight overs fade is hardly touched as he scythes through the fatigued Italian defence.
Halfpenny puts the conversion through the posts, and caps a strong start to the Welsh campaign.
