From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Responding to Australia's formidable declaration mark of 497 for eight, England closed on 200 for five, still 98 short of the follow-on target at Old Trafford.
Their hopes of saving the game and the urn were aided by conditions in Manchester, with morning rain and bad light in the evening allowing just 64 overs possible out a planned 98, while for long periods Burns (81) and Root (71) appeared in control of matters.
In the end the pair shared a defiant stand of 141 in nearly 53 overs - their second-century partnership and England's biggest of the series - only for Hazlewood to intervene with a late, decisive spell. Re-live the action live:

Nathan Lyon will bowl the first over after the break. Rory Burns is on strike.
Lyon comes round the wicket looking the turn the ball away from Burns.
ENG 130-2, Burns 67, Root 47
Lyon drags one down and Burns cuts it away for four runs. He's waiting for that loose one from Lyon.
Lyon goes short again and Burns cuts it squarer this time to the fielder on the boundary for one run.
ENG 130-2, Burns 67, Root 47
Pat Cummins starts from the other end. I wonder if he'll change any of his plans to Rory Burns.
Burns has played the short ball well today.

He does change his line of attack. Cummins decides to go across Burns from over the wicket trying to entice the drive.

He finishes the over with short ball that Burns ducks under. Maiden for Cummins.
ENG 131-2, Burns 67, Root 48
Root faces his first balls since tea. Nathan Lyon is bowling. Root struggled against Lyon in the afternoon session as he looked to score but couldn't get the ball away.
He tries to sweep but doesn't beat the fielder. The next ball Root stays back and pushes the ball to third man for one.
ENG 131-2, Burns 67, Root 48
Just the single off the over. The crowd are still giving Nathan Lyon a big cheer whenever he catches the ball.
ENG 132-2, Burns 67, Root 49
Root works Cummins away for one to leave Burns to deal with him again.
Cummins changes his angle of attack and comes round the wicket to the left-hander.

Burns recognises that the short ball is coming and he waits on the back foot to flick it to fine leg for another one.
