Jacobson's touch denies British trio
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 28-year-old beat the Londoner Brian Davis and the Welsh pair Bradley Dredge and Jamie Donaldson by a single shot, despite it being his first tournament in 10 weeks because of a wrist injury
Jacobson chipped in at the first, then at the third to drop only one shot after driving out of bounds, but the one at the 526-yard 17th clinched victory. He was in a five-way tie with Davis, Dredge, Donaldson and long-time leader Greg Owen at the time, but finding the target from short of the green put him two clear and enabled him to bogey the last.
"Coming back to win is unbelievable," said Jacobson, who last triumphed at the Hong Kong Open in December. "I've not been swinging it well but all I was looking for from the week was for the wrist to hold up and get four rounds in. I've not even been able to practise my arshort game much because of the injury, but I did really well around the greens."
