Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Southampton impressed last season with their free-flowing, attacking football taking them to an eighth placed finish.
The Saints have been victims of their own success though and have lost several of their best players from last year. They will need to rebuild and regroup quickly or they could be in trouble in the season ahead.
COMPLETED TRANSFERS
Dusan Tadic - £10.3m from Twente
In Southampton's rebulding job, they have signed attacking midfielder Tadic. The 25-year-old scored 16 goals in 33 league games last season for Twente, as the Dutch side finished third behind Ajax and Feyenoord.
Graziano Pelle - £8m from Feyenoord
The 28-year-old striker has been reunited with manager Ronald Koeman. The Italian played under Koeman at Feyenoord and now the two will try to help the Saints build on their success of last season. He netted 23 times in the Eredivisie last term.
Ryan Bertrand - Season-long loan from Chelsea
The left-back joined from Chelsea on a season-long loan. It is the seventh different loan spell of his career.
Fraser Forster - £10m from Celtic
Having impressed north of the border for some time, Forster finally returned to the Premier League. The former Newcastle player was a part of the England squad that went to the World Cup.
Florin Gardos - £6m from FC Steaua Bucuresti
Gardos arrived on a four-year deal with the centre-back lined up as the replacement for Dejan Lovren. The Romania international arrived with 12 caps for his country.
Shane Long - £12m from Hull City
Having only switched to Hull in January for around £7m, the Tigers were unable to resist a quick £5m profit. During his time at the KC Stadium the Republic of Ireland international managed just four goals. Long signed a four-year deal.
Saphir Taider - Loan from Inter Milan
Taider arrived from Inter Milan as part of the deal that saw Dani Osvaldo go the other way. The 22-year-old midfielder made 25 Serie A appearances last term and went to the World Cup with Algeria.
