Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spurs are in need of a win to strengthen their position in the top four – London rivals Chelsea are now only two points behind in fifth. A win will however restore the gap to five points with Liverpool just a point ahead in third.
Watford are more or less safe from relegation but have a place in the top half of the table in their sights: a win here will lift them above Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, level on points with tenth-place Newcastle United.

90+3 mins: We're in to six minutes of stoppage time following that clash of heads earlier in the half, but it seems futile. Those in the ground who haven't already gone home want to. I know I do.
90+5 mins: Lloris makes two final saves to ensure another clean sheet and, more notably, another Watford blank on the road. The Tottenham keeper reacts well to keep out Carrillo's angled blaster and then recovers to claim Deulofeu's weak follow-up.
A routine night in North London where Harry Kane scored and Watford didn't. The Tottenham striker notched his 27th Premier League goal of the season to restore their five-point lead over Chelsea in the Premier League table; Kane still has an outside chance of winning the Golden Boot - now four behind Mohamed Salah - but his side are almost certainly nailed on for another top-four finish.
For Watford, their 38 points surely means they are already safe with seven sides below them, but Javi Gracia clearly has issues to address when his side hit the road. The Hornets created plenty of chances for themselves tonight but failed to take any which means the new head coach has yet to see his side score in the seven away matches he has taken charge of.
That's all from us at Wembley this evening, but we'll be back tomorrow to cover the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Until then, thanks for following us and goodnight.
