From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spurs are in need of a win to strengthen their position in the top four – London rivals Chelsea are now only two points behind in fifth. A win will however restore the gap to five points with Liverpool just a point ahead in third.
Watford are more or less safe from relegation but have a place in the top half of the table in their sights: a win here will lift them above Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, level on points with tenth-place Newcastle United.

65 mins: Meanwhile, Javi Gracia has looked to his substitutes bench and made a double change. It's like for like as Troy Deeney replaces Andre Gray up top while the on-loan Gerard Deulofeu takes over from Kiko Femenia.
68 mins: Jan Vertonghen hits the post! The Belgian defender was up highest as Trippier sent another dangerous cross into the box, this time from a free-kick, but the resulting header crashed against the woodwork and Kane was unable to finish with the follow up.
70 mins: Watford may never score another goal away from home again. Richarlison has an unbelievable chance to halve the deficit following a smart Deeney knock-down at the far post, but inexplicably smashes the ball over the crossbar from eight yards out.
71 mins: Watford have the ball in the back of the net! Don't get too excited though, Hornets fans, it's not going to count! Deulofeu raced on to Doucoure's through ball, skipped past Lloris and rolled his shot home, but the flag had long gone up against the Barcelona man. There was very, very little in it.
74 mins: Now it's Tottenham turn to rue an offside flag! Brilliant control from Vertonghen, inexplicably on the edge of the Watford box as a pass is played upfield, offers the Belgian a chance to play in Kane on the left. He does so, and the striker promptly finishes with the a fine curler into the far corner but he had just moved too far forward before the pass was played.
Meanwhile, Son makes way so we can have a giggle at Moussa Sissoko for the final 16 minutes.
77 mins: A clash of heads between Trippier and Richarlison on the far side of the Wembley pitch has the physiotherapists darting on to issue treatment. After a couple of minutes., both players are deemed fit enough to continue.
82 mins: A final substitution apiece sees Tottenham's opening goalscorer, Dele Alli, and Watford's bright spark, Will Hughes, take well-earned breaks. On comes Erik Lamela for the home side and Andre Carrillo for the Hornets.
87 mins: To a backdrop of empty seats, Kane unleashes a curling right-footed effort from outside the box that flies high and wide of goal. It almost sums up a game that has shown flashes of promise but has ultimately failed to deliver. Tottenham won't care though as they come closer to bagging another three points.
