From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Spurs are in need of a win to strengthen their position in the top four – London rivals Chelsea are now only two points behind in fifth. A win will however restore the gap to five points with Liverpool just a point ahead in third.
Watford are more or less safe from relegation but have a place in the top half of the table in their sights: a win here will lift them above Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, level on points with tenth-place Newcastle United.

After setting-up Alli's opener, Christian Eriksen finds himself in good company - as well as Emmanuel Adebayor's.
44 mins: Watford are threatening an equaliser before the break! The pace of Javi Gracia's forward line is meaning they are finding plenty of space behind the Tottenham defence, and twice in 30 seconds the visitors go close to scoring. First, Richarlison is played in on the left by Andre Gray, his shot eventually beaten away by Lloris. Immediately afterwards, the French goalkeeper has to come to his side's rescue again, darting off his line to block Doucoure 25 yards from goal following another Hughes pass.
SECOND HALF KICK-OFF: Tottenham kick-off the second half knowing they are 45 minutes away from restoring a five-point gap with Chelsea as they look to secure a top four finish for the third consecutive season. However, they will need to show more than they did in the first period because Watford ended it the side on top. There are no changes for either side to report, but the home fans will hope to see a change in attitude.
48 mins: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 2 WATFORD 0:
There's the change of attitude and there's the second goal for Tottenham! Son Heung-Min broke down the left wing and laid a low cross on a plate for Harry Kane, only for the striker to slip at the vital moment. Not to worry. On the right flank, Kieran Trippier took possession of the loose ball, and quickly centred for the recovering striker, who made no mistake in planting his shot past Orestis Karnezis. The home side look to have killed off Watford with their first attack of the second half.
50 mins: That goal, of course, keeps Harry Kane in with a sniff of the Golden Boot. The Tottenham striker is now four goals behind Liverpool's Mohamed Salah in the race to top the Premier League goalscoring charts. Expect many more efforts from the England man over the next 40 minutes.
52 mins: Watford have now gone ten hours without a goal away from home. Ouch.
Perhaps this is the real reason that Tottenham's second goalscorer slipped over instead of converting Son's pass. Kane keeps the Trippier streak alive.
63 mins: Tottenham are forced into making their first change of the night. Mousa Dembele has been unable to recover after taking a whack moments ago and he will be replaced in midfield by Victor Wanyama.
64 mins: An instant impact from Victor Wanyama, who is booked within a minute of coming on. In fairness to the Kenyan, he does little wrong as Richarlison leaps high in an attempt to poke the ball past him and actually tries to pull out of the tackle. That doesn't stop Michael Oliver issuing his first card of caution in this match.
