Spurs are in need of a win to strengthen their position in the top four – London rivals Chelsea are now only two points behind in fifth. A win will however restore the gap to five points with Liverpool just a point ahead in third.
Watford are more or less safe from relegation but have a place in the top half of the table in their sights: a win here will lift them above Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, level on points with tenth-place Newcastle United.

Good evening and welcome to Wembley for The Independent's live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford in the Premier League.
The team news will be with us in ten minutes but, in the meantime, here's some light worrying reading for Spurs fans.
Let's have a closer look at how the two teams line up this evening...
...and note that Mauricio Pochettino has made just a single change to the Tottenham side that lost the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United nine days ago. It means there's a return in goal for captain Hugo Lloris as Michel Vorm drops back to the bench where he is joined by the wantaway Toby Alderweireld. Tottenham's front four of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane have netted 56 Premier League goals between them this campaign.
Watford, meanwhile, make three changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace last weekend. Stefano Okaka and Roberto Pereyra were both injured in that match so miss out which allows Kiko Femenia and Richarlison to come into the starting XI. Elsewhere, Troy Deeney drops to the bench which means Andre Gray starts a game for the first time under new manager Javi Gracia.
Tottenham: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Son, Kane
Subs: Vorm, Alderweireld, Lamela, Wanyama, Sissoko, Aurier, Lucas Moura
Watford: Karnezis, Mariappa, Kabasele, Cathcart, Holebas, Capoue, Doucoure, Femenía, Hughes, Richarlison, Gray
Subs: Gomes, Janmaat, Britos, Deulofeu, Deeney, Sinclair, Carrillo
Referee: Michael Oliver
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris returns for Tottenham this evening.
A win for Tottenham this evening will restore their five-point cushion over fifth-placed Chelsea in the race for the top four, and history certainly seems to be on their side when they face the Hornets.
Wembley might be close to capacity this evening but you won't find many plastics amongst the crowd...
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off about his side's chances of bouncing back from their semi-final defeat last weekend...
It is normal to be disappointed after defeat in the FA Cup. The players needed a few days to feel good, to move on and to be focused on the challenge to finish in the top four. That is now the most important thing. The training was good, the week was good and we need to translate that and deliver today.
And now it's the turn of Watford head coach Javi Gracia. The Spaniard has been discussing his side's injury problems pre-match with Patrick Davison...
It is always better to have more players and more options to choose, but it is not a problem for me. We have players here who are motivated and ready to play.
It's nearly time to go! The players emerge from the tunnel at Wembley to a balmy spring night in London...
KICK-OFF: Watford begin affairs at Wembley and waste no time at all in getting forward. There are just 11 seconds on the clock when Will Hughes sets his sights at goal and unleashes a shot from 20 yards. The former Derby man doesn't get a true connection on his effort, however, and there is little to trouble Hugo Lloris.
