Brighton drew with Southampton at St Mary’s on Thursday, missing out on a chance to secure their place in next season’s Premier League.

Neal Maupay opened the scoring on 17 minutes as the visitors looked set to guarantee their survival, but Danny Ings struck his 20th league goal of the season shortly after the hour mark to ensure the points were shared.

What are the odds?

Southampton – 13/10

Draw – 5/2

Brighton – 5/2

Prediction

Both teams will want to get on the ball and control possession, which could lead to an open match with counter-attacks aplenty and chances at both ends. Saints are more clinical, so they win.

63 mins: Iwobi and Bernard finish their days work as Carlo Ancelotti replaces them with Walcott and Gordon.

66 mins: Aston Villa have overtaken Everton on attempts but neither team has had a shot on goal. Branthwaite has a tug on Samatta's shirt and gives Aston Villa a free kick just outside the box.

67 mins: Jack Grealish fancies this one, just over to the left. He stands over it but it's Hourihane who takes the shot. He tries to curl one round the wall but is unsuccessful.

69 mins: The second half drinks break is taken. Aston Villa have been the better of the sides since the break. They've been a lot more positive, could we see a goal?

Michael Jones16 July 2020 19:26

72 mins: Gordon plays the ball past El Mohamady and backs himself to win the race to the ball. El Mohamady knows he's beaten and sticks out an arm that Gordon runs into. Yellow card for the Aston Villa man.

72 mins: GOAL! Everton 0 - 1 Aston Villa - (Konsa)

Aston Villa are in front! They win a free kick to the right side of the penalty area. Hourihane curls it into the six-yard box. Villa throw men at the ball, Davies attempts a diving header but misses it. Konsa is behind him though and he lunges forward, gets a shin on the cross and the ball bounces off and dribbles into the back of the net.

75 mins: Huge goal in terms of the relegation battle. Aston Villa will move within one point of West Ham and Watford who play each other tomorrow night.

That was Ezri Konsa's first Premier League goal for Aston Villa and it could be a big one.

Michael Jones16 July 2020 19:34

78 mins: Aston Villa have conceded 16 goals in the last 15 minutes of matches this season. More than any other Premier League side.

It's going to be a nerve-wrecking last few minutes if you're a Villa fan.

Michael Jones16 July 2020 19:37

81 mins: What a chance! It should be two-nil to Aston Villa! The away side have been searching for a second goal. Grealish puts a cross into the far post where El Ghazi is arriving. The substitute gets in behind Lucas Digne and meets the cross. He only needs to tap it in but instead boots it over the top.

Michael Jones16 July 2020 19:39

84 mins: Everton win a corner. Sigurdsson whips it into the box. Mings leaps up to clear the ball but misses it and it goes out for a goal kick.

Villa are dropping deep. They're going to have to defend these final few minutes with all they've got.
