Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.England meet Italy this evening in their final test before Gareth Southgate names his squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and plenty of players have their place on the line.
Jack Butland starts in goal following Jordan Pickford’s composed performance against the Netherlands, while the Burnley defender James Tarkowski makes his international debut.
There are plenty of other enticing ties going on around the world tonight including Germany vs Brazil, Spain vs Argentina and Hungary vs Scotland.

England 0-0 Italy
10' - Jesse Lingard slides Jamie Vardy in on goal with a precise through ball but, just as Vardy is about to pull the trigger, Mattia De Sciglio dispossesses the striker with a last-ditch block.
Super defending.
England 0-0 Italy
16' - Ciro Immobile spurns the best chance of the match as he heads over from just six yards out after Antonio Candreva's pin-point cross.
England need to sort themselves out at the back here - Italy could quite easily have scored two or three goals already.
England 0-0 Italy
23' - We're just over halfway into this first half and England are yet to have a meaningful effort on goal... until now!
As I'm typing, Raheem Sterling plays Jamie Vardy in with a neat through ball but the Leicester striker's first-time strike is blocked by Gianluigi Donnaruma in the Italian goal.
That's more like it from the hosts.
GOAL! England 1-0 Italy (Vardy, 26)
Raheem Sterling is fouled 30 yards from goal and the referee awards a free-kick... which Jesse Lingard takes quickly and finds Jamie Vardy, who lashes the ball into the top corner from just inside the area.
Great finish and great thinking from Lingard to pick Vardy out with such speed!
England 1-0 Italy
32' - Italy's Marco Parolo tries his luck from distance but the ball sails narrowly over Jack Butland's crossbar.
