Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier has been arrested by French police after he allegedly elbowed a policeman in the throat outside a Paris nightclub.

Aurier, 23, has been detained at a police station near the Champs Elysee in for "deliberate violence against a person of public authority," a police source told AFP. The Ivory Coast international has repeatedly found himself in trouble with his football club, having been suspended earlier this season.

The Ligue 1 side have confirmed that Aurier is in police custody but refused to comment further.

The source adds that Aurier allegedly “insulted and hit a police officer”, and the incident comes just three months after he was suspended by PSG for appearing in a video in which he called head coach Laurent Blanc a “faggot” as well as insult some of his team-mates.

Aurier apologised for his offensive comments and said that he made a “stupid mistake”, with the right-back later restored to the first team. He started PSG’s final match of the campaign, which saw the club win the Coupe de France with a 4-2 victory over Marseille to add to their Ligue 1 title and Coupe le la Ligue success.

Aurier has made 31 appearances for the Ivory Coast and played for his country at the 2014 World Cup, while he was also shortlisted for the team of the tournament at the 2015 Arfican Cup of Nations.

Despite his success on the field since completing a move to PSG from Toulouse in 2015, Aurier has found himself in trouble on multiple occasions during his career. He was suspended for three matches by Uefa after calling referee a “dirty son of a b***h” in a Facebook video following the Champions League match against Chelsea in 2015 during a season-long loan spell with the Parisians.
